I am eternally grateful to of taken my first Bikram class at the Philly studio on March 27th 2003. Alexandra was my first Bikram instructor and still inspires me to this day. That first class still makes me laugh because could not do much more at times than just pick up my foot, rather than my water bottle and not leave the room. Alex was kind, patient, and tough! Part of me hated how hard it was to stay focused in the heat for 90 minutes but deep down I knew this is what I had to do to stay healthy and creative in my life. For years had spinal and knee issues that were getting worse. I had practiced tai chi and yoga at home since running began to hurt too much but I need to find a more challenging and or radical approach.. After just the first few classes I knew I'd found the right challege but what excited me way how my back and knee began to feel just a bit better and better. Once I realized it I had no excuses other than to get my ass to class as much as possible. The ideal of teaching did not even dawn on me till I was at a kind of cross roads in my life and the training Bikram offered was not easy but more of what I needed. So, after years of steady practice and the encouragement of my teachers I graduated from the teacher training in June of 2005. Since then I have been fortunate enough to have this become a huge part of my life. After teaching and taking thousands and thousands of classes it still humbles and amazes me every time I participate. On the surface all the classes may look alike but once you delve in and take a closer look ,much like snowflakes no two are ever the same. And as the saying goes boy, looks what happens when they stick together! Bikrams class is one of the most powerful tools for self healing and expanding ones awareness of being a more fully conscious human being. Hope to see you in class!
